So I talked to my internet provider tech support  and it appears the DSL modem is not the problem. They thought it may be a hardware problem, because the computer is about 7 years old.

Your ISP will always tell you that it is something else that is causing the problem - they never want to take responsibility for anything. You need to debug the issue yourself and tell them what is wrong (And for the love for god don't mention you are running Linux)

From what you describe I'd bet it is an issue with the network card or your router (not the modem, unless of course your router and modem are an all in one).

Yes, the router and modem are all in one. I sort of don't think it's the ethernet/network card, because the last time the connection went out my laptop with wifi also would not connect.
Anyway, right now my wired connection on this computer and the wifi enabled computers are all working fine. Apparently if the problem occurs again I just need to reboot the modem/router. Actually if it does happen again I think I'll have to demand a new modem! That just doesn't seem right.

I've been wondering about that as well.
I get the same message, but I've got the recommended nVidia driver, my compositing is enabled and docky works great.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but this a limitation in the current ATI driver + your card. The FOSS developers on the ATI driver have been working hard to get it up to par - but it is not there quite yet so we still see issues like this on occasion :-/

For the best 3D results under Linux always use an Intel or nVidia chipset.

« Last post by Jeff on September 30, 2010, 01:58:29 pm »
When I was using ubuntu, which had many issues, it allowed me to install inside windows using Wubi. Pinguy OS, while AWESOME, does not let me do that. When I install it on a partition I can choose between windows or linux, but when I choose windows it does a disk check and then starts windows. When I reboot it tells me "no module found, press any key to abort"

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The disc check Windows runs is because you resized it's hardrive.

Is it Windows or Grub that is telling you "no module found"? Can you boot into Windows and/or Pinguy at the moment?

Honestly I think Pinguy/All distros should use which ever of the two suites works the best. Meaning unless Libre does something to drastically improve usability switching to a new name is only going to confuse people.

I gave my full thoughts on the subject in a recent post -

Libre Office - What it means for End Users

Liitle update: I applied the tweak of this blog entry: http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2010/05/06/ubuntu-10-04-lucid-blank-screen-at-startup-workaround/ to fix my graphics. Now the problem occurs only if I use nautilus or other applications (vlc, conky, ...)  for a certain time ?.O

Just watched Stargate Universe S2E01 really enjoyed it. I loved the song at the end, it was Mumford & Sons - After The Storm
