I just have one trivial question. My boot screen and login screen have the lovely Pinguy OS logo, but the MintMenu icon at the top left of the panel is still the Ubuntu logo. Not that I don't like the orangey-red Ubuntu logo, but is there a Pinguy OS logo .png file I can substitute for it in /usr/share/icons...etc. That icon is the only thing missing from my Pinguy OS bliss.

Well, I guess I fixed my problem. My ethernet adapter must be bad.

sounds like the problem to me, especially since you have had a laptop running off of the same network/connection.

Good grief! Now it looks like there's nothing wrong with my computer. The problem is in the DSL modem. Apparently I just need to turn it off now and then, and then the ethernet connection works great.  Though I've never had to do that before, that's what the Frontier tech guy told me.
Technology continues to baffle me.....

Have you seen new thing Caprica?

Yes, and I am a fan. I really enjoyed watching it. The other Sci-Fi series I can 't want to start up again is Stargate Universe. Also I am pretty excited about The Walking Dead.

My favourite sci-fi series is Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe.

I believe universe airs tonight in the US on the 28th, so i wont be waiting until the 5th here in the uk to see it. haha. (should be out on torrent soon i hope). Really looking forward to season 2 as the season finally of season 1 had me on the edge of my seat.  ;D

I am also quite fond of Star Trek too (voyager, enterprise, deep space nine, and next generations). :)

Open Tickets / HELP! Dual monitor issue.
« Last post by teh-p3nsi0n3r on September 29, 2010, 12:26:28 am »
Ok so I've finally got round to adding a 2nd monitor to my rig. Running PinguyOS dual mode glory.  ;D

Everything is working fine except for Compiz/Desktop effects. The card i have is a ATI Radeon 9550. The main monitor i use is a Samsung Syncmaster T200HD. Compiz has always worked fine at resolution of 1680 x 1050 by itself before adding a 2nd monitor.

After a little searching about i believe that the driver i am using is the default "radeon" driver. And the ATI Catalyst drivers. (have tried anyway). No longer support my card. And it is not possible to use any old drivers on ubuntu 10.04 from previous versions. So I am stuck with the default drivers.

Compiz Also works fine when the desktop is set to duplicate on both screens. But I am "extending" the desktop on to the 2nd monitor as i do not want to duplicate my desktop on 2 screens, and this is where i am having problems.

When I have the screens set to extend, the desktop effects switch off. Now i beleive this is something to do with resolutions being over a certain size i read?. I am not sure if this is true.

I am running my Samsung syncmaster T200HD at 1680 x 1050, and my old CRT at a reslution of 1280 x 1024.

I have tried reducing these resolutions to a very low resolution on both monitors (still set to extend) but trying to enable desktop effects still does not work.

Here is some terminal information below, if it is of any help?.

Thanks.

Running this in the terminal , i got the following.

The funny thing about sci-fi is that once I see something I like, I want more. Which means inevitably I end up watching a bunch of duds to get my fix.

@fatgiant there are a few I forgot about. Haven is great, it took awhile for it to find its legs but it becoming a great show. Also (not really scifi) I do like The Gates. even though the last two episodes where not that great.

Zombies, zombies. But you're right, if it's anything like the comic, this one should be entertaining.

Guys, if you like real Sci-Fi, I suggest you take a really close look at Stargate Universe.

Thanks, I should check that out.

There is a new Sci-Fi series that a few people have said that is great that I just don't like, "The Event".I know it's only two episodes in but it's just to bad for me to care about it.
