Network speed testers needed.
« on: September 14, 2010, 01:51:47 am »
I am trying something new with the torrents and need people to test it for me. You don't need to re-download the Distro I just need you to download it for a bit and tell me if it maxis out your bandwidth and what speeds you where getting, then you can just cancel the download.

Here are the new torrent's to test.

Ok pinguy, I started on the i686 ISO and topped out at about 82kb sec but leveled off at 10kb a sec and is holding there.

The x64 ISO topped out at 85.5kbs then went to idle. And is holding there.

Ok just sitting at idle and not downloading.

Edit:  Restarted download of torrent and started download then stopped idle again.

The i686 one topped @ around 255 for me, which isn't the greatest, but not bad for my connection.
The X86-64 I get nothing.
The i686 torrent @ burnbit gives nothing either.

Re-downloaded the above i686 and it only gives around 35 at best. Mostly I am seeding @ 20 (my cap preference)

The new x86-64 gives nothing.

Now both have stopped entirely.

They should of had enough time now to get a swarm going. Both torrents have 10 webseeds on them each so they should be fast. Can someone test it again.  I have tested it here and they seem to be working OK.

Just read this post, so i started both torrents;

can report on on instantaneous speed since it varies

x86 : 10 seeders, down speed 327KiB/s  Upspeed 20KiB/s

i686 : 10 seeders  down speed 374KiB/s upspeed  none

wait for a while, now both at 430KiB/s

Thanks wayne. Can you refresh this page and try downloading them again. I have just tried something different, it should now show that it's using openbittorrent and should be a lot faster.

Thanks. That should be all. Just needed to know they are working. What I did was set them up with 10 webseeds/servers. Meaning I am not depending on other people to seed it now, and should be faster getting the distro from the torrents then using the http link.

Wow, I can confirm both torrents to be very speedy. Great idea Pinguy! This should ease some bandwidth constraints and make it faster for people to get PinguyOS. One thing: perhaps it should be noted on the website that the torrents are the preferred method of downloading?
